John Prineas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and the Optical Science and Technology Center at the University of Iowa . He received his PhD in physics from The University of Arizona in 2000, where he studied pronounced light-matter coupling in semiconductor heterostructures at the Optical Science Center with Professor Hyatt Gibbs and at Lucent Technologies with Dr. Jagdeep Shah. In 2000, he studied the nonlinear properties of resonant photonic bandgap structures as an Alexander von Humbolt Postdoctoral Scholar at The Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart , Germany with Dr. Juergen Kuhl. He began as an assistant professor at the University of Iowa in 2001, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007 and appointed a Dean Scholar. Since coming to Iowa , he has established molecular beam epitaxial growth lab and an ultrafast optics lab. He has pursued research in nonlinear optical materials; and mid- to long-wave optoelectronics for applications such as chemical sensing and thermal scene generation. He has served as an Officer of Optoelectronics in ASL Analytical, Inc. [link to www.asl-analytical.com ] since 2006. He has published over 70 articles in refereed journals and refereed conference proceedings, and given talks at over 35 national and international conferences.
